Prescription digital therapeutic (DTx) concept testing and forecasting
The work conducted by Ipsos fed into the strategic planning and influenced the decisions taken for later-stage development and investment.
Business issue
Our client sought to explore the potential opportunity for a prescription digital therapeutic to treat digestive health disorders. Specific goals were to:
- Prioritise unmet clinical needs
- Measure DTx concept appeal among Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) and consumers, identify drivers and barriers
- Determine HCPs’ perceptions of the most appropriate patient populations
Our solution
Ipsos conducted quantitative research with patients and HCPs to evaluate the appeal and performance of DTx concepts across patient segments, HCP willingness to prescribe, and patient acceptance. The study also provided guidance on SOV and cannibalisation of the client's digestive health product lines.
The analysis involved financial and volumetric forecast modelling to provide year-over-year sales volume and revenue for 5 years post-launch and determine forecast sensitivity due to various changes.

Impact
Ipsos identified the highest-priority unmet needs for HCPs and patients. The interactive forecast model provided a vision of each DTx scenario’s commercialisation potential and its impact on their existing prescription products.
This work fed into the strategic planning and influenced the decisions taken for later-stage development and investment. The forecast provided eventually led to the acquisition decision.
