Research methodology
We met with each member of the Data Council face-to-face between October 2024 and January 2025. Our interviews included open-ended provocations, as well as multiple choice questions and covered five broad ways in which businesses can be, or are being, affected by data.
The Data Council comprises 28 senior leaders based in the UK, from a broad range of sectors including FMCG, finance, technology, retail, food and beverage and hospitality. The members do not all hold the same role in their company – some are directors of business and operations, others hold commercial roles, others are concerned with insights and analytics, some look after product and marketing.
Similarly, their remit varies from those with global and regional responsibilities to those with a UK remit. Contributors were from the following organisations: Asahi, Barclays, Clarion Events, De’Longhi, Diageo, Dyson, JLR, Lenovo, Microsoft, Nestlé, Pepsico, Purina, Roadchef, Samsung, Secret Escapes, SharkNinja, Shell, Tossed, UCB, UEFA, Unilever and Visa.
