Synthesising knowledge on vaccine hesitancy using AI
"Ipsos piloted Focus Group Data (FGD) analysis using AI tools, such as generative AI (GPT4), to summarise over 100 reports on vaccine hesitancy."
Business issue
The client was keen to leverage artificial intelligence to understand the overall attitude towards vaccinations, in addition to vaccine hesitancy, and to identify the fundamental causes that fostered such hesitancy.
Our solution
Ipsos piloted Focus Group Data (FGD) analysis using AI tools, such as generative AI (GPT4), to summarise over 100 reports on vaccine hesitancy. Using a series of carefully curated prompts, we asked AI to provide an executive summary of each document, and we then collated these summaries into a single document.
The summary document was then run through the AI to synthesise the knowledge and to provide an overall summary, detailing similarities and highlighting differences between the markets attitudes among different target groups.

Impact
Our study concluded that AI performs well with text-based reports, however since image analysis capabilities of GPT4 had not been yet enabled, AI struggled with correctly analysing reports with a high proportion of visual data, such as charts, graphs and images. New models, such as Claude 2, will enhance our capabilities in reports synthesis allowing for more content to be analysed together.
Currently, due to model limitations, important nuances can be lost as the process is iterative and final analysis is performed on AI generated summaries.
